Ingredient spotlight – MCT Fractionated coconut oil
Why do we use MCT as the carrier oil in our tinctures ?
Medium-chain triglycerides, commonly referred to as MCTs, are a type of dietary fat with a unique chemical structure. Compared to longer-chain fats, MCTs are absorbed more easily into the body, therefore, enhancing the absorption of CBD – this is the main reason why we use MCT as our carrier oil in our tinctures.
How
CBD dissolves really well in fats, making it easier to work its way into your system. Without getting too technical the chemical structure of MCT is smaller than those of other oils which means your body can break it down and start using it faster.
Other Benefits of MCT
Food ingredient – MCT oil is usually clear and pretty much tasteless and makes it easy to add to smoothies, salads, and other recipes, with CBD restaurants the norm in America, the combination of CBD and MCT is a staple ingredient used in many of their salad dressings and other recipes !
Keto Friendly
This is music to my own ears as both Paul and I have been following a Keto diet for a number of weeks now.
MCTs can be converted into ketones, which are produced from the breakdown of fat when carb intake is low. If you’re following a ketogenic diet, which is very low in carbs yet high in fat, then taking MCT oil can help you stay in the fat-burning state known as ketosis …… *rushes to cupboard to take a gulp ?.

MCT oil has been shown to increase the release of two hormones that promote the feeling of fullness in the body: peptide YY and leptin.
It may even be better than coconut oil in keeping you full. One study found that people taking two tablespoons of MCT oil as part of their breakfast ended up eating less food for lunch compared to those taking coconut oil.
MCT oil has about 10% fewer calories than long-chain triglycerides (LCTs), which are found in foods such as olive oil, nuts and avocados.
Your body also processes MCTs differently, which may help you burn calories *again, runs to cupboard to take another gulp, also burning calories whilst running.
Hope you found this informative and also helps to clarify why we use MCT in our tincture oils.
